Volunteering at Public Service Events
BARC organizes volunteer communications support for several events each year. These are open to any licensed amateur; a dual-band HT with a good antenna is generally required and a spare battery is highly recommended. For more information, contact the club’s Public Service chair, Ethan Hansen, KC1OIP (ethan.kc1oip@gmail.com).
For a list of upcoming events, see the Calendar page.
Emergency Communications
Emergency communications are organized by the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). The website for eastern Massachusetts ARES can be found here.
National Traffic System
The National Traffic System operates a net daily at 8:00 pm on the 145.23 Boston repeater. More information can be found here.
National Weather Service SKYWARN
Many hams participate in the National Weather Service’s SKYWARN program. Free training classes are generally given in the spring. More information from WX1BOX at NWS Taunton can be found here. A list of SKYWARN repeaters can be found here.
